Who we are?

We are Transition Stroud and we work to inspire action for a sustainable future. We are a network for people and groups acting on the transition to a locally-based, low-carbon lifestyle.

Transition Stroud focuses on key areas such as transport, food, reuse and repair, and reducing carbon. We convene a Forum for climate action groups across Stroud District and work in partnership with local authorities and other bodies and community groups.

The climate and ecological emergency is already having an effect on our lives.  We need to increase our efforts to equip local communities to reduce their impact and adapt to the changes that are occurring. We are seeking enthusiastic and energetic people to join our Council of voluntary directors to help support and steer the organisation and bring about effective change for our communities.

Our work

The Transition movement started in 2006 and has spread across the globe. Transition Stroud was one of the first groups which formed in 2009 and has worked for over 10 years on projects across the town and district.

We have helped people plant and grow food, repair and repurpose electronic items and textiles, develop more sustainable transport solutions such as access to cycling, showcased Eco Homes and Gardens, shown films to inspire and helped hundreds of people to develop new skills to improve their sustainable lifestyles.

The Directors are there to ensure the organisation follows its mission and uses its resources to achieve its objectives. You will be helping with strategic direction, goals and plans and bring your inspiration, energy and creativity to help increase our efforts to realise initiatives and projects.

Directors meet about every 6 weeks and take part in events and our AGM. You will need time to reply to emails, read and respond to papers and support and help groups and events.

We are an organisation which wants to work for everyone within the district. Our Directors need to better reflect the diversity of people who live in our communities to help us be more inclusive and welcoming.
