Projects and Action Groups
Below are our current action groups and projects – you can get involved with any of them, or drop us a line if you want to get something else started.
Repair Cafes
Repair Cafés are free meeting places and they’re all about repairing things (together). In the place where a Repair Café is located, you’ll find tools and materials to help you make any repairs you need. You’ll also find expert volunteers, with repair skills in all kinds of fields.
There are three regular Repair Cafes each month:
- Stroud, hosted in collaboration with Atelier Stroud at Trinity Rooms (Field Road, Stroud, GL5 2HZ)
- Nailsworth, hosted at Nailsworth Community Workshop (Subscription Rooms, 11 Bath Road, Nailsworth GL6 0JB)
- Minchinhampton, hosted at Minchinhampton Library, School Road, Minchinhampton, GL6 9BP
E-Bike Loans
Transition Stroud and social enterprise The Bike Drop have worked together to set up Pedal Power, an e-bike loan project across Stroud District in collaboration with the many Climate Action Networks, community groups and cycling enthusiasts in our region.
Now expanded to 18 e-bikes with pick-up points in Stonehouse, Stroud, Brimscombe, Minchinhampton, Horsley, and Rodborough this project makes it easy to try out an e-bike for yourself.
Reserve one for yourself on our booking site and one of our amazing volunteers will sign a bike out to you!
Textiles Group
Primary Contact: Clare Sheridan on textiles@transitionstroud.org
Useful Links: Trashion Show Info | Monthly meetup
The Textile Group meets regularly in people’s homes to mend and update clothes, swap clothes and fabric, and knit, crochet, make buttons or do any other crafts that take our fancy.
We often put on a Trashion Show that showcases all that we stand for with mended, upcycled beautiful and practical clothes, along with fun outfits made from rubbish.
Supporting New Ideas
As well as setting up our own projects, we also help new community ideas to flourish through affiliation, mentoring, fiscal hosting and funding. Below are some of the projects and networks we support right now.
Yard Trail
Taking place in front and back gardens across the district, Yard Trail brings the community together to buy, sell or give away anything and everything from clothes, furniture, and bric-a-brac to artwork and plants.
Yard Trails have been set up in several places around the Stroud district and Yard Trail organiser Victoria Ashcroft would like to reach out to communities to run even more.
Transition Stroud supports Yard Trail by offering insurance and banking services so the organisers can focus on getting their Yards Trails going.

Stroud Area Community Energy Network
Stroud Area Community Energy Network (SACEN) is a group of community volunteers and local energy experts who support the growth of community owned energy across the greater Stroud area.
SACEN supports communities, local organisations and businesses to plan, raise funds for, and install clean energy for community benefit. They run regular network meetings, public information events, and campaigns to help you understand how community energy works.
Transition Stroud supports SACEN by offering admin, fundraising and organisational support so they can keep energising communities.
Network Building
We also work with other climate and community organisations across Stroud to build active networks, run events and imagine a better future together
Supported Groups and Projects
Transition Stroud Directors offer all sorts of support to new and emerging action groups or projects across Stroud District – from offering small amounts of funding through to project support and advice. Here are some brilliant ideas we’re happy to have contributed towards over the years.
